You may have noticed the little blue bogmen that have been popping up on the map over the past week. They are what we call Solar Champions, the 1BOG participants that have been helping to get the word out about renewable energy and about our program with their neighbors. Read on to see a few examples in places where we are having campaigns.
A few members of the 1BOG team went up to Sonoma County last week to give a talk about solar energy at a house party. Carol M was kind enough to open her home to us, and I was amazed to see so many people show up, saying they had seen lawn signs in the neighborhoood parks, outside coffee shops, and around people’s houses in the neighborhood. Needless to say, Carol has done an exceptional job of being a solar champion.
Just yesterday we got an email from Sandy in San Diego, one part of which went like this:
“I signed up some time ago actually as soon as I heard about the program, I pressured my kids to sign up too and worked on a few others, had my installer do the eval on 6/19/2009 and signed up that day for solar for my home.”
“My two daughters are being evaluated also and I asked for…the guy who did my evaluations from GroSolar to do them all.”
“I am wondering about a program for converting Priuses to plug in. I have a number of folks interested in that too and I heard that you are working on a program for that.”
And a few days ago I heard from Mark out in Denver, who said, “I sent an email out…to about 1300 people over the weekend. The SUN Block Captains will be forwarding it our to their blocks today, and I think an email from our neighborhood association list will go out this week.”
Solar champions are the backbone of our program. They talk to their neighbors, family, and friends, and share 1BOG with their community.
