iBog? Close! Welcome to One Block Off the Grid

ibog? If you landed on this page, you typed in www.ibog.org into your browser instead of www.1bog.org. This is TOTALLY FINE, I just have a question for you. See, even my mom still calls it “ibog” instead of “1bog….” so I made this page to try to get some feedback why everyone’s brain is so compelled to want it to be ibog instead of 1bog.
- I thought it was ibog because of iMacs or iBooks?
- I thought it was ibog because our logo looks like an “i” instead of a “1″?
- I thought it was ibog for some other really awesome reason that I haven’t even thought of before?
Just curious why the brain wants to say ibog… If you don’t mind, fill this out and let us know. When you’re done, please visit our homepage or sign up to find discounts for solar energy on your home.
OK, I get it, I get it, it’s not iBog. Now take me to the 1BOG Solar Group Purchasing Home Page.

“When I read the heading in the recent New York Time article, I read IBOG….When I looked closely after seeing this site, I can see it is a 1, but at a quick first glance my mind read I…. “
“Because I’m 50 and it looked like an ‘I’”
“Probably because of MAC products”
“I saw a bumper sticker, the ‘1′ definitely looks like an ‘i’”
“Think in terms of words, not numbers so saw a ‘word’ as the name! Oops”
“I went back to the NYTimes article I saved and the one looked like a capital I. I think it is simply the fact that the number one and the letter I look so similar in type.”
“my fingers just type ibog”
“well, i’ve been in branding about 15 years, i’d say it’s because the 1 in your logo reads like an “i”. try a different font. also, it’s a weird name to pronounce. i saw your advert in san francisco bart station and after i finally found the call to action, i didn’t know what to make of the name… also because your logo isn’t prominent in the billboards. it bleds in with everything else. i was just curious when i caught the word solar…”
“I have no idea. I just wrote it down from memory instead going back to look it up in the newspaper article. It could have something to do with iMacs, I don’t know. It is just how my brain remembered it. Hey, what can I say, I’m over 50!”
“becuase Time magazine shows IBOG, not 1BOG… Issue June 8th 2009, pg 54″
“it looks that way in the Time article.”
“Sorry-I hit the ‘i’ instead of the ‘1′. See-they even LOOK alike !!”
“Scut article logo itouch”
“ibog looked like an i in the Time article on Carrotmob. of course, iTune, iPhone also helped.”
“I saw an article about this in the newspaper, but misplaced the paper and just tried to remember the website. I actually couldn’t even remember what the ‘bog’ stood for! I’m guessing I thought it was ibog for the first reason – because of iPods, etc. I don’t honestly know.”
“The article in Time Magazine spelled it with an “I”…good thing you have this site with “I”, too. Love the concept-Thanks for all your hard work-we need it to make our world even better!”
“I was reading the article in June’s TIME and they listed the site as (subscript)”I”(capitalized)BOG so it looked like a little capitalized “I” and nowhere near the number 1. I think it is difficult for the brain to figure out how to say a number with an acronym because all those years we spend being hooked on phonics.”
“I bog, you bog, we all bog for cranberries?”
“I am 67 years old and predictably imperfect visually. If you want to prevent the ambiguity between i,I,1and l (this last is a lower case L) you could assume the responsible position and url onebog. You see there are a bunch os the 6B you are trying to attract that get bogged down by their EYE and eye am 1 of those. Does that help?”
“Because it was spelled IBOG in the Time magazine article I read.”
“it looks like an i vs. a 1.”
“Saw article in Time and it sure looks like IBOG, not 1BOG.”
“Because the sign on my neighbors lawn looks like it says ibog and when I asked them “what’s ibog,” they didn’t correct me.”
“I saw the url in print and did not know what the “letters” stood for; the 1 looked like an I. I don’t know other urls that begin with a number, so I assumed it was an I. I get it now!”
“The i looks like a one. Nobody puts digits in the top level domain names. Well, OK, maybe some people like 3M or 3Com. I was going to register onebog.com and onebog.org for you, but you already own them! Why not redirect them to 1bog.org? I think onebog beats 1bog for the tld anyway.”
“I was watching the news on yahoo. It was a clip about solar energy. I was interested, so I was waiting on the name of the organization to come up again, but it was the end of the clip. I saw a green brochure with what I thought was IBOG on the front. I Googled it & this is the first entry. Anyway, I’m on the way to your real site :-)”
“I am registered at 1bog but really am surprised I typoed “i” had to see my browser history and confirm I indeed typed ibog!!”
“I was reading a magazine article about you earlier today and for some reason I typed ibog. It’s strange, but I was picturing it in my head that way!”
“Good magazine has the Roman numeral 1 in the fall issue, not 1 bog, and it looks like an I.”
“Excellent article in GOOD magazine. Because of the type face they used, the 1 and the i are ambiguous. I tried both because I want to send your link to others – glad to hear both URLs work…”
“I think “ibog” sounded cute and catchy. I suppose I probably did subconsciously associate it with a mac product, but it just sounded kind of fun!”
“Good question–I guess when I recopied the info I thought the one was an I…I think your brain theory is good”
“Yup, it’s the old pervasiveness-of-the-internet-y “i” that made me think it. Glad it’s a “1″! (The “i” is getting a bit hackneyed, although it has its place.)”
“Someone told me about this site and told me it was called ibog. So I typed in ibog at the search bar.”
“Conditioning towards Apple products in addition to misreading your company name in a GOOD Magazine article mentioning your company is what seems to have caused the confusion. Have you considered printing the number 1 in bold or spelling it out as ‘one’? Perhaps a little rebranding/brand tweaking might help. Good news: I’m here, though! :D”
“…just because of mac branding forces acting subliminally on my ibrain….sorry”
“Your stupid logo said so. Also becuase a magazine said so.”
“bad eyesight, i guess- HEY TELL EM TO MAKE IT LEGIBLE AND/OR LARGER!”
“I thought it was ibog because your logo looks like an “i” instead of a
“1″, even though I knew what the acronym stands for!”
