    I can't find my house

If the map isn't loading, make sure that you wait a few seconds before continuing. It may take a little while for the map to completely load. If the map zooms in too far, just click the minus button on the zoom bar on the left hand side of the map.

I can't outline a section of my roof

To close your roof section and move on to the next step, make sure you do one of the following:

    1. 1. Click on the point where you started to close the outline
    2. 2. Click the "close outline button" once you've selected your roof section

I don't know which section to outline

We know that you're not a solar expert (and we don't expect you to be one) but we just need a general idea of where on your roof you think you might want to install solar panels. The best places are the south or southwest facing part of your roof. Take a look at instructional video in step 3 (located in the bottom left part of the screen) to see what we mean by roof direction. You can also install solar panels on any other part of your roof except for northern facing sections. Why not northern? Because there isn't enough sun exposure.

I'm not sure how big a section to outline

Outline the largest section of your roof that is best suited for solar panels. You can use our solar estimate tool as many times as you want, so feel free to try it with a few different roof sections of various sizes and see what looks good to you.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Choose the direction your roof section faces"

This information allows us to figure out how much sun exposure you'll be getting on your solar panels. The map you on your screen is oriented with north at the top and south at the bottom. Use the compass and the image above to match your section to a direction.

The area you selected is too small for an online estimate

Please outline a larger section of your roof!

If you double clicked, please try again by SINGLE CLICKING on a corner of your roof.

If you are having difficulty outlining your roof, you can contact us directly at 707-703-1330 or cameron@1bog.org

    Start Over

    1. Using the Map

Locate your roof by dragging the map. You can zoom in for a closer look.

Begin outlining by clicking on a corner of your roof!

To start over with a new address, click on the Start Over icon at the top right of the page.

    2. Outline Your Roof

Now decide on which section of your roof you want to install solar panels on. South and South West facing sections get the most sun exposure, but you can install solar panels on any part of your roof besides northern facing sections.

Continue by clicking on each corner of the section of your roof you want to install solar panels on.

Once you're done outlining, double click your left mouse button or click on the CLOSE OUTLINE button.

    3. What direction does the selected part of your roof face?

Choose the direction your selected roof section faces by clicking on one of the directions on the compass above.

TIP: If your roof is flat, just select "Flat" as the direction on the compass.

When you're done, confirm your selection and move on!
