I can't find my house

If the map isn't loading, make sure that you wait a few seconds before continuing. It may take a little while for the map to completely load. If the map zooms in too far, just click the minus button on the zoom bar on the left hand side of the map.

I don't know which section to outline

We know that you're not a solar expert (and we don't expect you to be one) but we just need a general idea of where on your roof you think you might want to install solar panels. The best places are the south or southwest facing part of your roof. Take a look at instructional video in step 3 (located in the bottom left part of the screen) to see what we mean by roof direction. You can also install solar panels on any other part of your roof except for northern facing sections. Why not northern? Because there isn't enough sun exposure.

I'm not sure how big a section to outline

Outline the largest section of your roof that is best suited for solar panels. You can use our solar estimate tool as many times as you want, so feel free to try it with a few different roof sections of various sizes and see what looks good to you.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Choose the direction your roof section faces"

This information allows us to figure out how much sun exposure you'll be getting on your solar panels. The map you on your screen is oriented with north at the top and south at the bottom. Use the compass and the image above to match your section to a direction.

The area you selected is too small for an online estimate

Please outline a larger section of your roof!

If you double clicked, please try again by SINGLE CLICKING on a corner of your roof.

Please note:

Solar panels facing north get much less sun, especially in the winter.

South-facing panels are best; east or west work as well.

You can continue with your estimate, but we suggest you choose a portion of your roof that faces south, east, or west for better results.
