“I’ve been really happy having microinverters…it makes things way more efficient.” Read Tim Pickard’s solar story.

Colorado resident Tim Pickard didn’t have the ideal roof for going solar, but with the help of micro-inverters and One Block Off the Grid, he was able to get the installation he wanted. Tim’s roof has been producing energy since early 2010, and here’s what he had to say about it:
“I was pretty far along in the research process of going solar when I stumbled upon One Block Off the Grid while surfing the internet. I signed-up because the negotiated price helped out a lot. I was also glad you had chosen REC Solar as the installer. They’re the largest in the area and I was confident they wouldn’t be pushed out of business and become unable to continue helping with the system.
I ended up saving about $3,500 on the installation by joining your program, so needless to say I was very happy with your deal. I had initially been working with a different contractor, but he wasn’t very flexible so I backed off. I’m glad I did too, because I got a much better price with you guys and got the system I wanted.
My roof has a bit of a shading issue, so I’ve been particularly happy with the micro-inverters we installed. They make a huge difference because the panel affected by shade doesn’t interfere with how our system runs overall. This makes things way more efficient, and I would recommend micro-inverters to any One Block Off the Grid member who has a shading issue.
Everything is going really well. The system was installed a little over a year ago, and it almost came out to where we produced just as much energy as we used. It fell short only a little bit, and that’s because we had to shut the system down when a huge power outage hit Denver. Plus there were a lot of heavy snow days this past winter.
This next year it will be really close, and the energy we produce might cover our utility bills completely. Everyone in my neighborhood thinks it’s pretty cool that I went solar, and one of my neighbors decided to do it as well. I saved a good $.60-1.00/W with One Block Off the Grid, so no such complaints here!”
